20th Annual Bradman Invitational CarnivalJunior Information
As many of you will know the 2017/2018 U14s Hornsby District Cricket Club team were fortunate enough to be invited to play in the 20th Annual Bradman Invitational Carnival held in the Southern Highlands. With a few boys from our regular team unavailable we were lucky enough to recruit 2 boys eligible from the U15s Hornsby team, 2 boys from Berowra Cricket Club& 1 boy from Thornleigh Cricket Club.
We all knew from the start that this competition would be very tough as we were the only club team playing against representative teams from across NSW.
These teams were Dubbo, Lachlan, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Southern Highlands& an All Stars Team.
All but one game was played on turf wickets which was a great experience for the boys.
Our team ended up finishing a very respectful 4th overall with 3 wins & 3 losses for the tournament including a memorable win on Bradman Oval against a strong Bathurst team in which the game ended in a draw but competition rules meant we won due to the fact we bowled Bathurst out.
This game saw our 2 openers, Ben Fisher & Kyal Cruickshank put on a 100 run partnership & both retiring on 50 not out plus one of the best outfield catches I have ever seen by U15s Hornsby player Nilesh.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the players on the way they conducted themselves both on & off the field. You all played with great enthusiasm& in the true spirit of the game.
You've done yourselves & Hornsby District Cricket Club proud.
A big thank you to all the parents & siblings for all your help & support throughout this tournament. To Warren Fisher for all his effort in, not only managing the team, but corresponding with everyone & scoring every game a massive thank you mate.
Samantha Cruickshank for organising team dinners & get togethers which really added to the experience.
Finally a huge thank you to Hornsby District Cricket Club, the entire committee & in particular Tim Thompson & Murray Macdonald for making this all possible.
What a fantastic experience we had & I urge all future teams to embrace what is a fantastic tournament.
